Sanctioned by Badminton World Federation (BWF) and hosted by the Badminton Association of Badminton (BAHKC), the 6-day “LI-NING Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships 2024 part of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500” will be held from September 10 to 15 at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
Starting this year, the Hong Kong Open is honored to have the Li-Ning (China) Sports Goods Co., Ltd., the leading sports brand company in China, serving serve as the Title Sponsor of the event, as well as the “Official Equipment Supplier,” from 2024 to 2026. The tournament is one of the stops of the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500, with a total grand prize money of US$420,000 for two consecutive years. The “Li-Ning Hong Kong Open Badminton Championships HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500” is proud of being an “M” Mark event that helps enhance the image of Hong Kong as Asia’s sports event capital. The “M” Mark awarded by the Major Sports Events Committee, symbolising intense, spectacular and signature event in the territory sports calendar.
Dr. Tong Yun Kai, SBS, MBE, DBA, President of the BAHKC, expressed great honor in receiving sponsorship from LI-NING, the leading sports brand company in China, for the first time. Badminton has consistently ranked among the most popular sports in Hong Kong. With the support of LI-NING, the sport of badminton will flourish and reach new heights.
Mr. Tong Wai Lun, BBS, MH, JP, Chairman of BAHKC, indicated that there is a total of 321 participants from 26 countries and regions enrolled for the tournament. According to the regulations of the World Tour, a total of 264 participants from 20 countries and regions are qualified, including 31 from China, 45 from Chinese Taipei, 35 from Malaysia, 26 from Indonesia, 22 from India, 19 from Thailand, 18 from South Korea, 13 from Denmark, 10 from Japan, among others.

The Hong Kong team will once again send out all of our elite players, including the reigning Paris Olympics Mixed Doubles duo Tang Chun Man / Tse Ying Suet, Lee Cheuk Yiu in Men’s Singles, the Women’s Doubles pair Yeung Nga Ting / Yeung Pui Lam, and Lo Sin Yan Happy in Women’s Singles, as well as Ng Ka Long Angus, Jason Gunawan, Lee Chun Hei Reginald / Ng Tsz Yau, Fan Ka Yan / YAU Mau Ying, and 20 other players ready to compete. With all these elites coming together, another wave of excitement is expected, continuing the brilliant spectacle of the Paris Olympics.
This year, the Hong Kong Open is supported by its Official Community Partner, The Hong Kong Jockey Club. Over the next two years, the “Jockey Club Hong Kong Open Badminton Community Programmes” will be launched, including distributing Complimentary Tickets to disadvantaged groups, teenagers, and the general public, hosting outdoor activities at the Hong Kong Coliseum and the “Badminton with You” International Star Masterclass, allowing the general public to interact up close with the badminton stars, enjoy the international badminton competition live, and participate in this annual sporting event.
Tickets will be available from 15 August 2024 at URBTIX website (sales are not available on the first day at URBTIX’s outlets nor self-service ticketing kiosks). Entry tickets to qualifying rounds and round of 32 for Men’s Doubles and Women’s Doubles on Tuesday, 10 September, will be distributed for free. Interested parties can send a self-addressed envelope with a $2.2 stamp to the BAHKC office. 4 tickets will be distributed per person while supplies last.
